My Top 5 Bookish Ships
I love a good romance. Not necessarily romance books in general (though sometimes you need a good romance novel), but the romances between characters within my favourite books. For those who don't know, to ship two people mean to want them to be in a relationship. I get very invested in fictional couples, so this list was very hard to make and is by no means the only couples that I ship. This is probably going to be the most incoherent post I've ever written because I love all of these couples so much and will have trouble articulating why I love them. Now, let's get on to the ships!
#5: Jamie and Claire (Outlander)
Contrary to what other people who have read this book had told me would happen, I wasn't obsessed with this ship right away. Rather, they grew on me throughout the first book. Jamie and Claire have a passion that is undeniable and they are brought together by the fact that both of them are outsiders in a way (Claire more so than Jamie). The way they protect and grow to love each other pulls at my heart-strings and had me wanting more and more by the later part of the first book.
I haven't read any of the other books in the Outlander series, as they're quite big, but I can't wait to read more about Jamie and Claire.
#4: Jesper and Wylan (Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo)
These two are absolutely adorable! I love a couple that has great banter and Jesper and Wylan definitely have that. There's not a whole lot I can say about them because I could easily accidentally spoil Crooked Kingdom, but the way they grow both together and as individuals while everything is going to crap around them makes be ship them even more.
#3: Will, Tessa and Jem (The Infernal Devices by Cassandra Clare)
How could I make a list of my favourite ships and not include these three! I'm usually not a huge fan of love triangles, but this is one of the only ones that I'm obsessed with. When I first read The Infernal Devices, I was team Will, but when I read this series a second time I started to ship them as a trio. Unlike other love triangles, there isn't any animosity or resentment between the three of them, and they have this shared love that is absolutely beautiful and supportive. It makes me want to hug them all and tell them that it's going to be okay because they go through so much!
#2: Simon and Baz (Carry On by Rainbow Rowell)
One of my guilty-pleasure relationship tropes in YA is hate to love, so it's no surprise that I was obsessed with Simon and Baz in Carry On by Rainbow Rowell. Carry On is essentially the fanfiction that Cath wrote in Fangirl and the whole book makes me feel nostalgic of the fanfiction that I used to read when I was younger. Simon and Baz start out as arch-enemies, but throughout Carry On, they develop this adorable relationship that is loving, supportive and just makes you go awww.
#1: Magnus and Alec (The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare)
If you know me at all, you know that Malec is my OTP of all-time across all books, TV shows, movies, whatever! As I mentioned before, I love a couple with good banter, and this is something that Malec absolutely has. They have an interesting dynamic of Magnus being fabulous and extravagant while Alec is a little more insecure and grumpy. However, what I love most about Magnus and Alec is how they've grown together throughout The Shadowhunter Chronicles and built a life together despite the adversity they have faced.
That's all for my top 5 ships! I hope this post was understandable, as it's difficult for me to articulate why these ships are my favourite without getting into the nitty-gritty details of the books. What are some of your favourite ships? Let me know in the comments below!
Until next time, have a lovely rest of your day and read something awesome!
