Nanowrimo 2018: Why I'm Prepping Now
I’ve attempted NaNoWriMo every year for the past few years with the same writing project, and every year I failed before even reaching 10,000 words. This is mostly because I was spending every November also studying for the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (I passed the N2 last year!) and I've tried to use the same approach every year. So this year, I'm going to try and mix it up! Because NaNoWriMo is a pretty intense month of writing, I thought that I should try and write by the seat of my pants. However, because I have a tendency to have multiple projects that I'm working on at the same time, writing in this way can feel daunting to me and end up not writing any words of my novel and opt for writing shorter pieces. This is not to say that any writing isn't good, but one of my main goals is to make a significant dent in this novel that I've been writing for the past 3-4 years.
The plan this year is to start my NaNoWriMo planning now. I tend to write more character-driven stories, so I believe a logical place for me to start would be to plan out my cast of characters, what they want and what they need, as well as the role that they play in the novel. Come November, I hope to have a complete outline of my novel that I can write from. This outline will not be set in stone, because I do still want to have the flexibility to change things along the way, but I think having an outline will help me stay more on track and use my writing time more efficiently.
I'm sorry this is a bit of a shorter post today! This week has been a bit hectic, but I still wanted to make sure I had a Friday post up for you all. I plan on posting further updates and will dedicate one post each month to my progress prepping for NaNoWriMo, so be sure to stay tuned for that.
Also, you will notice at the bottom of my main page, I now have a place where you can subscribe with your email address. I'm still figuring it out, but I would love it if you signed up!
Until next time, have a lovely rest of your day and read something awesome!
