Tome Topple Readathon Wrap UP
Oh boy - I didn’t have a very successful readathon. Basically, what had happened was school work and work had taken up so much of my time that when I went to pick up a book I was so tired. I still (thankfully!) managed to finish one book. It wasn’t even on my TBR for this readathon but it’s still over 500 pages! Now then, let’s get to my Wrap Up!
Tower of Dawn by Sarah J Maas
I FINALLY finished Tower of Dawn by Sarah J Maas. It took me a while, but I read enough pages during this readathon to say that I had toppled this tome.
As I’ve mentioned in previous posts, Tower of Dawn is the sixth book in Sarah J Maas’ Throne of Glass series. I can’t say much about the actual plot of this book because woah spoilers, but Tower of Dawn pretty much runs parallel timeline wise to book 5, Empire of Storms . It focuses on character that we didn’t hear from in the fifth installment, but we also hear news of the book 5 character, so that we get an idea of how long we’ve been in this new location and what’s going on at home.
I had found it quite difficult to get through this book. Someone I had met at Book Con had told me that basically nothing happens within the first 200 pages and they were right! I felt if our main cast of characters were all introduced within the first 200 pages, I could have skipped them all together. That said, after 200 pages I did start to fly through it more quickly, even with a few slower patches in between. I really enjoyed all of the action and how this new part of the world worked. I feel like Sarah J Maas does action and world building very well, and it’s one of my favourite aspects of her writing.
I had a bit of a love/not really loving relationship with all of the relationships in this book. I’ve found with the Throne of Glass in particular that sometimes it feels like couple are either thrown together or progress at an extremely fast rate, which can feel a bit jarring. Also, her later books get more smutty than her previous ones and this one also has some sex scenes, which I know people say are bad and I’m not saying that they’re good sex scenes, but I do like them in the same way I also like the occasional trashy fanfic.
Overall, I felt entertain reading Tower of Dawn and I ended up giving it 3 out of 5 stars. Let me know if you’d like me to do a spoiler-y review, because there is a lot of stuff that we could talk about.
Tomorrow I will be posting my TBR for the Summer Biannual Bibliothon, which I hope that I’ll be more successful at than the Tome Topple Readathon. And on Sunday, Ben and I will be posting our second collaboration post of the Summer Blog Promo Tour, so be sure to stay tuned for that as well.
Until next time, have a lovely rest of your day and read something awesome!
