I can’t believe that it’s September! While this doesn’t necessarily mean back-to-school for me (the classes I’m taking aren’t on semester), it still marks a new season of reading and some exciting new releases as well! This month I plan on playing a bit of catch up and try to finish the books that I haven’t finished yet that I've mentioned in my August Wrap Up, as well as the ones that I didn’t get to in my August TBR. But there are also a few other books that I’m hoping to get to this month. I may not get to all of the books here, but I’m going to try!
The Mark of Athena by Rick Riordan
The Mark of Athena is the third book in the Heroes of Olympus series, and I have already finished this book on audiobook. I will include more of my thoughts during my Wrap Up, but I’m really enjoying this format for this story.
The House of Hades by Rick Riordan
This is the fourth book from the same series as The Mark of Athena, and I’m also reading this via audiobook. The previous book left off with SUCH a cliffhanger, and I have a feeling that this book is going to be an intense but fun ride.
Feminasty: The Complicated Woman’s Guide to Surviving the Patriarchy Without Drinking Herself to Death by Erin Gibson
I am SO happy to finally have this book in my hands! I am a huge fan of the Throwing Shade podcast that Erin co-hosts with Bryan Safi, and I’m absolutely obsessed with the both of them. On top of that, Feminasty sounded like just the book that I needed.
Feminasty is a collection of essays that are so funny but also address real things that make a woman’s life unnecessarily difficult. Erin takes a provocative and hilarious approach to breaking down the sexism, intentional or not intentional, that keeps women down.
I’m maybe about 100 pages in so far and LOVING it, so I’m excited to continue.
Seafire by Natalie C. Parker
I’ve decided to pick up Seafire because it is the Booksplosion book of the month for September. This is a monthly online book club hosted by Booksplosion, which is made up of Christine from polandbananasBOOKS, Jesse from jessiethereader and Kat from Katytastic.
Seafire follows Caledonia Styx who has been left to chart her own course across the seas after her family is killed by a corrupt lord. She is captain of a ship with a crew made of women and girls who have lost their families, and their mission is to take this lord’s fleet down. But when Caledonia’s best friend is almost killed by an enemy soldier looking to defect, she begins to question what might be the key to achieve their goal.
A sea adventure with female pirates? Count me in! I’m very intrigued by this book, so I’m hoping to get to it this month.
Wildcard by Marie Lu
Wildcard is finally coming out this month! I have been greatly anticipating this book ever since I’ve finished Warcross and I’m looking forward to diving back into this world.
The first book, Warcross, takes place in a near future where virtual reality plays a large roll in everyone’s lives through a game called Warcross. We follow bounty hunter and badass hacker Emika Chen who is struggling to make it by. In a desperate attempt to score a valuable prize, she hacks herself into the opening ceremonies of the Warcross Championships, which ends up making her an overnight gaming sensation. However, when she travels to Tokyo and is hired to work a particular job, she learns that things aren’t as they seem and this could have dangerous consequences.
That’s all for the books that I plan on reading in September. What book are you most looking forward to reading? Let me know in the comments below!
Until next time, have a lovely rest of your day and read something awesome!
