The Great January Reading Slump
I feel like I say this at the end of every month, but this January went by fast. There were many different factors that made it go by fast for me - I was finishing up my Master’s application, we were still in extended hours at work, and I’ve started a new online class. Because of this, I was in a horrible reading slump, and I have yet to finish a single book in 2019 so far (gasp!). It’s not that I haven’t started reading books; I’ve actually started three different books, but for some reason, I wasn’t able to find as much time to read.
So basically, I don’t have an official wrap up for January but here are the books that I’ve started in January (and might finish next month).
Great Expectations by Charles Dickens
One of the things that I wanted to do more of in 2019 was read more classics, so I decided that I would start with something by Charles Dickens. Great Expectations is supposed to be one of his highly-celebrated novels, but I have to admit, I’m having trouble getting into it. I’m still going to keep going because I’m only 38 pages in, so I’m hoping that it will pick up.
Feminists Don’t Wear Pink (and Other Lies) by Scarlett Curtis
I only started this book this month because I didn’t want to read Great Expectations in the tub. I have read 32 pages, and I’m enjoying it so far. That said, I haven’t been reaching for it, but I’m sure that I will finish it in February.
Odd One Out by Nic Stone
I don’t want to jinx it, but I feel like this book may be starting to break me out of my slump. I started reading it a couple of days ago on my commute, and I’ve now read 138 pages. This book is written in thirds in three different perspectives, which is interesting and something that I haven’t read previously. I will hopefully be finishing this book in February, so I’ll elaborate more on my thoughts during my February wrap up.
That’s all for my January “Wrap Up”! How was your January reading wise? Let me know in the comments below.
Until next time, have a lovely rest of your day and read something awesome!
