Tome Topple Round 8 TBR
Today is the first day of the Tome Topple readathon, so it’s time for a TBR. The Tome Topple readathon was created by Sam from Thoughts on Tomes, and it runs from April 13th-26th. The main challenge of this readathon is to read large books that are over 500 pages, and it’s an opportunity for us to feel inspired to pick up the more intimidating books on our TBR piles.
I have been in a reading slump for basically the first three months of 2019, but after finishing The Red Scrolls of Magic last night, I’m excited to jump into the next book. So here we go, this is my Tome Topple Readathon TBR.
Lair of Dreams by Libba Bray
Lair of Dreams is the second book in the Diviners series and set in the dazzling 1920s in New York City. I read The Diviners as an audiobook, and I enjoyed the mix of prohibitions speakeasies, New York and the paranormal. I’m excited to hop back into the story with the sequel during this readathon.
For those who haven’t read The Diviners, it follows Evie O’Neill who after a scandal at home has been sent to New York to live with her Uncle Will, the owner of a museum about the occult. Evie is over the moon about experiencing all that is New York in 1926, but she’s worried that her uncle will find out that she has a secret supernatural power. But when murders start happening in the city, she realizes that she might have to come forward about her powers to help find the killer.
Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi
I have had Children of Blood and Bone on my TBR pile basically since it was released, but it became one of those situations where there was so much hype that I was scared that I won’t love it as much as I want to. But I want to put this aside and at least start it during the Tome Topple Readathon.
This book follows Zélie Adebola who lives in a world that used to be alive with magic until the night that magic disappeared. After a ruthless king ordered the maji to be killed, Zélie was left without a mother, and her people were left feeling hopeless. She has one chance to bring back magic, and with the help of a rogue princess, Zélie attempts to take down the monarchy.
That’s all for my Tome Topple Readathon TBR! If you’re participating, let me know what you’re reading in the comments below.
Until next time, have a lovely rest of your day and read something awesome!
